The text is on the topic of different music genres and is aimed at KS3 or 4. In 2 teams, pupils choose a word to find in the text. The pupils don’t know what each word is worth. Click on the word they have chosen when they have correctly identified it in the text and their score will be revealed. The winning team is the team with the highest score once all words have been found in the text.

French - du, de la, des, de l' - 'some' with food & drink

Use this PPT to introduce pupils to how to say ‘some’ in French. It begins by introducing different food and drink, using ‘some’. Pupils must identify the 4 different ways to say ‘some’. They are then taught the rules and then must identify whether the French matches the images. The images then rush across the screen and pupils must give the French. Finally, there is a matching activity.

Give each pupil a handout of these slides, as well as going through how it works. Working from the centre circle, pupils choose options and add extra detail to produce a paragraph in the perfect tense.

In this reading homework, students write questions about the texts (in French or in English, depending on the group's ability) for their partner, who then answers the questions when in class when the homework is due. They then both write a WWW & EBI for each other's answers.

German - Put the months in order

Ideal as a lesson starter or as an introduction to the German months. Pupils must simply put the months in the correct order. Months are then put in order one by one on the second slide.

Pupils choose a number between 1 and 5. Click on the number and it will take you to the corresponding topic. Pupils talk for a minute, answering each question. The blue arrow takes you back to the numbers slide. Questions are about holidays in German (e.g. What do you like doing on holiday?)

Pupils work in pairs. Give them a text to translate on the sheet individually to start with, then they swap for their partner to check (in their opinion). Their partner puts a mark in the box (my pupils like drawing sad faces for some reason!) for each error they think their partner has made. Encourages discussion.

I have a copy of this on my classroom wall and a set of cards for pupils when they are doing transcription pairwork. It's a list of punctuation phrases in German and English.
